Best Mosaic Supplies: Sharra’s Favorite Cutter + Tweezers

If you’ve ever wondered what tools and supplies make creating mosaic art feel smoother, more precise and more enjoyable to create, this is where to start!

In this post, we’re sharing my favorite mosaic supplies that I return to again and again in my own studio practice. These are the basic tools that support my signature style: detailed, expressive and full of texture, all with precision. No glass grinders or fancy equipment necessary!

Whether you’re brand new to mosaics or refining your technique, this cutter (also called a mosaic nipper) and specialized tweezers will help you work with more ease and confidence.  Watch below for more information on these all time favorite mosaic supply tools in my studio.

The Leponitt Glass Cutter

One of my most-used tools is the Leponitt glass cutter, known for its clean cut lines and reliability when working with a wide range of glass and material types. It works on more than just glass!

What makes it a studio favorite:

– Smooth, consistent, clean cuts
– Comfortable grip for longer creative sessions
– Reliable performance across different glass and material thicknesses, textures and finishes
– Ideal for both beginners and experienced mosaic artists
-Economical, timeless and lasts for years

This tool levels up your entire process and the difference is felt immediately in how the materials respond. There are less expensive and fancier verions out there, but the Leponitt has been a dependable leader in my studio!

Specialized Mosaic Tweezers (Tiny Pieces, Total Control)

When it comes to placing small, intricate mosaic pieces, I rely on specialized mosaic tweezers designed for precision and control.

Why they matter:

  • Perfect for detailed placement work
  • Helps reduce hand strain during long sessions
  • Gives you control over even the smallest tesserae and beads
  • Makes intricate pattern work feel much more achievable and efficient

These tweezers become an extension of my hand, especially when working on dense or highly detailed mosaic compositions.

My go-to tweezer tip: When they become dull or mucked up with adhesive, I sharpen them up with a metal file. This renews them to tackle the next project with!
