This commission was awarded to Sharra Frank by the Blue Cross Foundation in 2009. The BCF gifted the mosaic as an Art Award to Minnesota Green Communities as a 4th Annual Upstream Health Leadership Award. The repurposed window measures 40h x 22w.
On public display at Minnesota Green Communities.
The mosaic design was inspired by the Blue Cross Foundation’s purpose of creating healthy communities and the mission of the Minnesota Green Communities to ensure that all new affordable housing in Minnesota is environmentally conscious.
The mosaic design, set into a recycled window, depicts a healthy, welcoming neighborhood. The homes are made from recycled metal key plates, light switches, and door hinges. Skeleton keys with history are built into the trees. Other repurposed materials such as glass and china, from vintage plates, were used as well.
